Our Piedmont Education Foundation is the educational 501(c)(3) behind this site. That status is the rule, not a slogan: we do not endorse or oppose candidates or parties, and we do not take instruction from a campaign or a PAC. The page in front of you is voter education.
Marks on the scorecards and the November cards come from the public record we used — roll calls, adopted budgets, dated platform statements. A low score is a record of votes against a published package. It is not a verdict on character, and it is not a sample ballot.
Records change and people miss a document. If a campaign, a sitting office, or a neighbor has a primary source that should move a row, write hello@ourpiedmont.com. A dash stays a dash until the file supports a change. That is the honesty the board asked this desk to keep.
Why the desk started
Budgets, public safety, schools, and the cost of living are decided in rooms most neighbors never sit in. The minutes exist. The bills exist. The budget book exists. What was missing was a kitchen-table version that does not arrive with a party line.
The Foundation exists to pull those records into plain language so a Guilford or Triad voter can reach a conclusion without waiting for a mailer to tell them what they think.

Who keeps the desk
The board is made up of politically centered citizens in Guilford County who love this community and want honesty and verified fact in front of voters, so each person can make an informed decision at the ballot.
Centered, here, means the middle of the kitchen table—not a party headquarters. People who can sit through a budget hearing, read a roll call, and still talk to the neighbor who votes the other way. The point is not to win an argument. The point is that the record is public and should not require a decoder ring.
We are neighbors first: parents, taxpayers, small-business owners, people who use the same roads, the same schools, and the same jail-backup map as everyone else in this county. The Foundation is the way those neighbors put hours into the minutes, the bills, and the budget book so the explainer stays free.
What the board does: set the rules for the desk, keep the 501(c)(3) clean, and insist that every mark can be walked back to a document. What the board does not do: endorse a candidate, take instruction from a party or a PAC, or invent a plank when the file is empty.
The work is the public record, written in plain language, with a door open for corrections. If a campaign or a sitting office has a primary source we missed, the page should move. That is how a neighbor-run desk stays honest.

How we score
The full rule set now lives on Methodology. The short version:
- Legislators are scored on the same 2025–26 tracked bill set. Affordability, housing, and property-tax items count more.
- A low score is a record of votes against that package — not a character judgment.
- The sheriff card is a separate performance review on a 100-point scale. Do not compare 73 / 100 with +9 / 9.
- November head-to-head cards use a published concern set. They are not endorsements.
- The next version of the legislative gauge will split affordability from public safety.
