Who we are
Our Piedmont Education Foundation is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) public charity based in Greensboro, North Carolina. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information on our website at https://ourpiedmont.com and through the newsletter and forms offered there. We are not affiliated with, and do not endorse or oppose, any candidate or political party, and we never use your information for partisan purposes.
Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. There are two ways we may receive information:
- Information you give us. If you subscribe to our newsletter, you give us your email address (and, if you choose, your name). If you contact us by phone or email, we receive whatever you choose to share. If you make a donation, that transaction is handled by our donation processor; we never see or store your full card or bank details.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server and analytics tools record basic, non-identifying technical data such as the pages visited, general location (city or region), and the type of browser or device used. This helps us understand what content is useful and keep the site secure.
How we use your information
We use the limited information we collect only to:
- Send you the educational updates and newsletter you asked for.
- Respond to questions or messages you send us.
- Understand which resources are helpful so we can improve them.
- Keep our website secure and operating properly.
That is the full list. We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any partisan or political-campaign purpose.
We never sell or share your information
We never sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with anyone for their own use. Period. We do not provide your information to advertisers, data brokers, candidates, political parties, or any other organization. Your trust is the entire basis of our work, and we treat your information accordingly.
Service providers who work on our behalf
To run a simple website and newsletter, we rely on a few trusted service providers that process information strictly on our behalf and only to deliver the service you requested. They are contractually limited to that purpose and may not use your information for anything else:
- Constant Contact delivers our email newsletter and manages unsubscribe requests.
- Our donation processor (Zeffy) securely handles any gift you choose to make.
- Website analytics helps us understand general, aggregate site usage.
Using a provider to deliver a service you asked for is not the same as sharing or selling your information, and we never do the latter.
Our email and newsletter practices
Subscribing to our newsletter is completely optional. You will never be added without your knowledge. We follow strict, permission-based email practices and the strictest guidelines for verified, opt-in email:
- We only add people who knowingly sign up themselves.
- We never email purchased, rented, or harvested lists.
- Our mail is sent from an authenticated domain (using SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) so you can trust that messages from us are genuinely from us.
- Every email includes a one-click way to unsubscribe, and we honor those requests promptly.
Cookies and analytics
Our website uses a small number of cookies and privacy-conscious analytics to measure general site usage, such as which pages are visited most. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify you personally. You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings; the site will continue to work.
How we protect your information
We take reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the limited information we hold, including secure, authenticated email infrastructure and access controls. No method of transmission or storage over the internet is ever completely secure, but we work to safeguard your information and to collect as little of it as possible in the first place.
Children's privacy
Our website is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other websites
Our site may link to other websites, such as government pages, news sources, or our donation processor. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to review their policies.
Your choices and rights
You are always in control of your information. You can:
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
- Ask us what information we have about you, correct it, or ask us to delete it.
- Decline cookies through your browser.
To make any of these requests, just contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we will post the revised version on this page and change the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to check back from time to time.
